- San Antonio Women's Cooperative ($50) About 30 minutes from town is the beautiful Maya village of San Antonio. There, a group of women have established a unique cultural experience to sustain Maya knowledge. Throughout the afternoon, you will make tortillas or tamales and craft a clay pot or plate in the traditional ways of the Maya. Connecting with the visionary and entrepreneurial women will perhaps be the best part of this experience! Low intensity.
- Rio Frio Cave and Rio On Pools ($90) After a 40 minute drive into the Mountain Pine Ridge, you will visit the stunning Rio Frio Cave. This is an easy to navigate cave and is a short exploration. Your guide will share the importance of caves to the Maya and point out key geological features. Then, you will have a delicious lunch overlooking your afternoon hangout. After a short walk, you will be at Rio On Pools. Find a rock and plan to spend the afternoon as you wish --- napping, reading, exploring, swimming, soaking in the views of mountain jungle. Medium intensity.
- Ziplining ($120) Surrender to the canopy of the Belize rainforest. After an hour drive to Calico Jacks, you will leave the world and worries behind as you get geared up for a two hour zip lining adventure in the treetops. Consisting of 11 runs, a short jungle hike, jungle medicinal knowledge from the guides, and a few scream-worthing moments, this tour is a snapshot of Belize jungle experiences. Medium-to-high intensity.
Saturday, June 15:
- Barton Creek Cave ($50) After a one hour drive into the foothills of the Maya Mountains, you will arrive at Barton Creek Cave. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the jungle setting then hop in a canoe with a spotlight and a guide and glide your way into the Maya underworld, known as Xibalba. You will see stunning cave geology, enjoy the peace of darkness and water, and gain an understanding of Maya history and beliefs about caves. Low intensity.
- Cave Tubing ($90) "Bottoms up" as they say! The drive to Nohoch Che'en is about 1 hour. From the parking lot and after a delicious picnic lunch, you will hike about 45 minutes through the jungle, hop on a tube, and have a leisurely float down the Caves Branch River system. Passing in and out of caves and jungle, you will learn about cave geology and local flora and fauna. An afternoon of cool water and amazing scenery will top your bucket list! Medium intensity.
- ATM Cave ($120) Actun Tunichil Muknal. If you want to be a part of one of the most amazing things Belize has to offer, this is it! After river crossings, a hike through the jungle, and a short swim into the cave, you will be face to face with Maya skeletal remains, amazing pottery (left untouched), and striking cave formations. You WILL feel like Indiana Jones. ATM has been named one of the top ten caves in the world by National Geographic. High intensity and sure-footed-ness is a plus.
