Sample Itinerary
Day 1, Tuesday, June 11: Plan to arrive to Smith-Goldson International Airport (BZE) by noon. We will depart on an almost two-hour drive to San Ignacio, with a lunch stop. We will enjoy our first adventure (included in price of the trip). By late afternoon, we will arrive to Cassia Hill, settle in, and have a Happy Hour welcome reception. We will dine at Cassia Hill and get to bed early --- exhaustion is real on arrival day and we want you to be ready for Day 2! Evening conversations will focus on lesson ideas, schedules, prepping for adventures.
Day 2, Wednesday, June 12: We start the day with breakfast and head to SEPS. There, we will begin with a tour of the school and meeting with administrators to gain a better understanding of the SEPS community. We will facilitate one ice-breaker activity twice -- with two partner teachers/classrooms. We will have lunch at SEPS with our partner teachers to continue to build relationships and understandings. After lunch, we will drive about 15 minutes for an afternoon of learning about the history of the Maya while visiting the Xunantunich Maya site. This tour is included in the price of the trip. There will be time to shop with local artisans (woven and carved goods). There will be a little time for relaxation before we head to a local restaurant for a few drinks, processing the day, and a delicious dinner. We end the day at Cassia Hill with Community Time --- reflecting on the day and planning for Thursday.
Day 3, Thursday, June 13: Much like Wednesday's schedule we will enjoy breakfast together then head to SEPS for our 2nd day of lessons. Afterwards, we will head into the heart of San Ignacio for lunch, shopping in the pedestrian area, visiting local murals, and enjoying the third experience included in the price of the trip. We will have some down time at Cassia Hill and enjoy dinner in town. After dinner, we will return to Cassia Hill and have Community Time -- reflecting on the day and planning for Wednesday.
Day 4, Friday, June 14: Following breakfast, we will have our final day engaging with teachers and learners at SEPS. This is a day where, after our lessons, we can extend our appreciation to the SEPS community with gifts we have brought. There might be tears and hugs and notes of love. Afterward, we will depart for an afternoon choice adventure (see Adventure Choices) and convene in town for dinner and sharing stories. These are the moments most participants find most meaningful --- dinner truly represents the sharing of experiences of inspiring work with kids in the morning and afternoon adventures.
Day 5, Saturday, June 15: THIS IS THE NEW, ADDED DAY FOR EV24 . . . on this day, you will choose your second adventure. On reflecting with EV23 participants, several of them wished they had another day to BE in Belize without planning for lessons. This might be your high adventure day as tours will end early afternoon providing time for hanging in the pool, napping, resting and reflecting, etc. We will have our final dinner out at a very special place to celebrate growth and insights from the week.
Day 6, Sunday, June 16: After breakfast, we say good-bye to Cassia Hill, the Cayo community, and our time together on Belize EduVenture 2024. Please schedule flights to leave after 11am, if possible. We will leave in time to get you to your flight two hours before departure.
